The advantages of linking computers to form a network are beyond doubt, as services like central file storage, communal printers and shared Internet access bring enhanced facilities to users while giving IT managers extra control over their systems. But amid all the advances in computer hardware and software, the need to develop and maintain an effective network infrastructure is easily forgotten.

Almost all Local Area Networks (LANs) employ Ethernet technology, which is supported by computer platforms including PCs, Macs, Acorns, and palmtops. Over the years, Ethernet has developed in many ways, and can now be implemented over several media and at a range of speeds. Atomwide offers products to support and integrate these varying styles of Ethernet, as well as advice about designing and developing networks, and the skills to configure and commission them.

“We have been very pleased with the user-friendly advice provided by Atomwide’s staff. Installation - a potential nightmare - proved to be prompt and tidy, and the new wireless network works a treat!”

In addition to co-ordinating the installation and termination of Ethernet cabling, Atomwide can assist with all aspects of network commissioning, from fitting and configuring switches and media converters, to setting up servers and clients.

Training in the management and maintenance of network systems is normally provided to IT staff as an integral part of this commissioning work, but is also available as an independent activity if a free form, customer-led session is more appropriate.

Atomwide’s experienced engineers can also be hired by customers seeking help with implementing their own developments, or trouble-shooting.
