Offering activity holidays to students, 3D’s IT requirements are a little different to the norm. Most of their work relates to schools and educational computing - yet it is also a business with responsibilities and commercial pressures of its own. Atomwide handles two quite distinct activities when working for 3D. At the Head Office in Brighton, our work focuses on the development and support of the on-line booking and administration systems, while at the holiday centres, we set up the networked computer rooms that offer IT facilities to complement the more adventurous daytime activities. Ceri Benwell, Product Development Manager - IT, reflects: ‘We began working with Atomwide in 1996, following an introduction set-up by Acorn, who at the time were our principal computer supplier for the activity centres.’ ‘Atomwide began developing modern site-wide networks to expand the capabilities of the two venues we had at the time and, after four years of collaboration, has just completed our fourth site’s infrastructure. This latest addition has brought a change to using PCs, with Compaq technology for both network servers and desktop computers, again supplied and deployed to a tight deadline by Atomwide.’ ‘So far, the results have been excellent, both for the remote sites and the booking system at Brighton. We receive excellent backup, prompt and courteous service, and the sense that our business actually matters to Atomwide long after the bill has been paid. It continues to work for us!’
